About Classic Card Room

Classic Card Room is a small independent site for traditional card games — cribbage, gin rummy, Spite and Malice and five solitaires — playable free in any browser, with no account, no download and no pop-ups.

How the games are built

Every game is written from scratch from the traditional public-domain rules, with our own card designs. The rules engines are covered by automated tests: cribbage hand scoring is checked against every scoring combination (fifteens, pairs, runs, flushes, nobs, his heels), gin rummy against knocks, gin and undercuts, and the computer players are run through thousands of simulated games to make sure they never make an illegal move.

The computer opponents come in three levels. Easy plays legal but loose cards. Normal plays sensibly. Hard looks ahead — in cribbage it scores every possible starter card before choosing its discard.

Daily deals are generated from the date, so the same day always gives the same cards. Daily solitaire deals are checked by a solver before use, so every daily can be cleared.

Privacy

• No accounts. Your stats, streaks, settings and nickname are stored only in your browser (local storage). Clearing site data removes them.
• When you add a score to a daily leaderboard we store the nickname you chose, the score and a one-way hash of your network address (to allow one entry per player per day). Leaderboards are public.
• We use privacy-friendly analytics (Umami) and Google Analytics to count visits and game starts. No personal profiles are built here and nothing is sold.
• If ads are added later they will sit outside the game table and never interrupt a hand.
